“We are in front of a clean sheet of paper. But it was suddenly filled with colours. This is the magic of the world’s deserts. Our first trip to Saudi Arabia seemed promising and all these intuitions, based on our documentation work and on the knowledge of neighbouring countries, were exceeded during the reconnaissance of the first part of the rally-route, in the northern and western regions of the country. The diverse topography, terrain, and scenery allow us to come up with a format for a complete rally. After 4,500 kilometres and 10 days of crisscrossing this part of the country, we can already say with certainty that the competitors of the 2020 Dakar will need a lot of endurance!”
