2010: Gordon and Chagin, full speed ahead! (29/40)

December 28 th 2017 - 15:35

Edition 40 is approaching… a look back at 40 episodes with the most memorable images in the history of the Dakar.

It might not be the Kitzbühel Streiff, but nearly! The final two kilometres of the Iquique stage is a downhill run with an average grade of more than 30% and it is not wise to hesitate in hurtling down this giant dune, where the competitors head for the bivouac flat out. This is something that perfectly suits Robby Gordon, who blasted his way down the sand in his Hummer and eclipsed Vladimir Chagin, who is not used to hanging about behind the wheel of his Kamaz. This sandy slope is always a mini-contest between the fastest drivers. The record holder is still Nasser Al-Attiyah, who in 2011 was clocked at 220kph in a Volkswagen Race Touareg.
