Henk Lategan, who was third today, 10’53’’ behind the winner, finished ahead of Yazeed Al Rajhi, his closest pursuer in the general rankings, making it a good day for the South African, who has led the rally since the first stage. The TGR South Africa driver has increased his lead over his Saudi team-mate to 10’17’’ compared with 6’54’’ this morning. The rally leader will be the first to start on the first stage of the second act of the Dakar’s 47th edition.
“We had to open the special for the second half when we overtook Yazeed. We did a good job. It was a high pace, which means it was easy to make mistakes and lose time. I’m happy with the whole week, even if starting first the day after tomorrow wasn’t part of the plan”
