Erik Goczał: “The target is just to have as much fun as possible”

Nothing seems able to stop Erik Goczał in his quest for another title on the Dakar. The Polish driver, who this year is discovering the Challenger category, picked up his fifth victory of the year in Al Hofuf ahead of his uncle Michał and Mitchell Guthrie. Eryk Goczał now boasts a lead of more than thirty minutes in the general rankings in front of his father Marek and Mitchell Guthrie.

“For sure, today it was incredible, the mix of happiness at the end of the dunes and I think if we have the win today I’m going to give it to Oriol because at the moment where everybody was lost with the navigation and I wasn’t sure where to go, in big canyons where it was difficult to climb, he was just sitting there pointing with his hand saying, “we have to go this way” different to everybody else. I was doubtful, but we went exactly to the right point and caught the waypoint exactly and then we went straight on. I am so happy that we got together and for sure maybe today we showed that we cooperate like one of the best teals. The target is just to have as much fun as possible and I hope I get as much stage wins like this as possible. At the start, we were like Tom and Jerry with Mitch, but I think I am faster than him and we won some time”.
