"I gave myself three Dakars to finish in the Top 10", frankly admitted Thomas Berglund before he took on the first South American rally. And while the adventure ended prematurely following a crash on stage 10 last year, this Swedish Army officer hasn’t revised his ambitions. His third participation on the Dakar could be the one where he enters the limited club of elite riders. “In 2009, I dropped out of the race somewhere around 15th place, which corresponded to my plan. I took a silly fall, while riding in the dust of two other riders and I preferred to retire because I injured my neck. It wasn’t serious, but I didn’t want to take any chances. Finishing in the top 10 this year is still my goal.â€
