“We want to be the best buggy team”
Four class victories in ten rallies: The German HS RallyeTeam is one of the most successful buggy teams of the last years. In 2004, Matthias Kahle and Thomas M. Schünemann made an impressive rally raid debut during the UAE Desert Challenge by winning the buggy class and finishing fifth overall. The team’s biggest success was exactly one year ago, on the Dakar 2009. After more than 9,500 kilometres through Argentina and Chile, the Fast&Speed buggy reached the finish line coming 15th overall and beating all other buggies. On the first edition of the Silk Way Rally in September 2009, the German crew Kahle and Schünemann once again won their class.
The driver: Matthias Kahle won the German Rally Championship six times – more often than any other driver. In 2004, Kahle and his co-driver Thomas M. Schünemann entered a rally raid for the first time. After a short side trip to Volkswagen, Kahle returned to the HS RallyeTeam in 2008.
The co-driver: Thomas M. Schünemann looks back on more than 30 years of motorsports experience. The founder and CEO of the German company HS – Hamburger Software GmbH & Co. KG started his career in rallying in 1977. Since 2004, the navigator and initiator of the Dakar project has collected several victories. Considering this, his aim for the Dakar 2010 is not surprising: “We want to be the best buggy team. Again.”
The vehicle: Since 2003, the Fast&Speed team owned by Johnny Hakvoort is an inherent part of the Dakar, the team has taken part in all occasions since then. In 2005, the Dutch team entered a car for the HS RallyeTeam for the first time. The rear wheel driven Fast&Speed buggy is powered by a Honda V6 engine delivering 295 bhp and 420 Nm. Thanks to its Reiger suspension and BFGoodrich tyres, the buggy is competitive on all kinds of surfaces.
