Francisco Chaleco Lopez: “One of the toughest”

“It was a wonderful stage and very hot at the end, a technical and tough special. I handled the bike well. It was a route that suited my machine, but it was difficult. For one of the last few stages of the Dakar, it was one of the toughest”.

Marc Coma: “The engine suffered”

“The first part of the special was very different from the second section which required more riding skill. It was quite tough. I had a small problem with the bike, the same as in Fiambala, because of the heat. The engine suffered a lot due to the high temperature, so I dropped my pace a little in the second part. But it was a fairly nice special and there was an incredible amount of people”.

David Frétigné: “I tried to keep up with Marc’s pace”

“I really enjoyed this morning. There were quite a lot of very quick tracks, with some dry river beds and a bit of navigation. Then, on the second section of the route I saw that I wasn’t losing too much distance on Marc Coma. I always had his helmet in my sights, so I tried to keep up with his pace and gave it my all. In the end, I think I put in a really good time”.

Christophe Declerck: "A mini Touquet rally!"

“We suffered a lot because of the heat. The first part was very stony and there was lots of dust, so it was difficult to overtake. I didn’t want to make any mistakes and especially didn’t want to leave the tracks and risk a puncture. I’m fed up with punctures. The second part was sandy and that meant I was on my preferred type of terrain. It was like a mini Touquet rally with hoops and sand. I enjoyed myself a lot. I really wanted to win the stage today and get some time back on Sonik. It’s going to be complicated to get onto the podium, but I wanted to send out a reminder that I’m still here”.

Stéphane Peterhansel: “We finished at 30 kmph”

“We really don’t have any luck all on this stage, since it was on the programme last year, but in the other direction and that’s where we dropped out. Today, it was tricky and very quick. What’s more, 30 km from the finishing line, we started having engine problems. We finished at 30 kmph, which meant we lost time, but we’re still happy to be here all the same”.

Nasser Al Attiyah: “I feel good about tomorrow”

“It was quick with some unbelievable parts. Sometimes the car was on 4 wheels, sometimes on 3, sometimes even 2. In some places the track was steeper than I have ever seen, almost vertical! I didn’t lose much time, so it’s been a good day. I feel good about tomorrow, even great…”

Carlos Sainz: “Everything’s fine”

“It was a bit quick, not dangerous but tricky. I didn’t have any problems. Everything’s fine”.
