Honda, passion for sport and the Dakar Rally
Honda is the world’s largest and most successful motorcycle manufacturer and makes more internal combustion engines than any other organization. But the company’s scale and achievements are powered more by human emotions and passion than metal valves and pistons.

Honda’s association with the Dakar goes back many years and during nine years of participation between 1981 and 1989, Honda won no fewer than five times.
Since the return of Team HRC and the CRF450 RALLY to the world’s toughest race, Honda has gone from strength to strength, collecting ever more victories and relying on the latest cutting-edge mechanical technology.
In the most recent editions of the Dakar, Honda has been the most successful manufacturer, accumulating the greatest number of stage victories. In 2014, during the 13-day race with the brand new CRF450 RALLY bike, riders Helder Rodrigues and Joan Barreda posted 5th and 7th place finishes. The latest 2015 edition saw Paulo Goncalves battling for a win before finishing in Buenos Aires with an overall runner-up spot. Team HRC rode to seven stage triumphs in total, with Joan Barreda taking top honours in four stages.
The CRF450 Rally will be in production soon for rally enthusiasts to purchase and enjoy exploring all over the world.
Kärcher cleaning centers
After the great success of Kärcher cleaning centers at the last five Dakar Rallies, the cleaning specialist will be an official supplier to the rally next year, too. Global market leader Kärcher will ensure that vehicles are kept clean by erecting cleaning stations with extra powerful professional pressure washers. All teams will be able to have their vehicles cleaned thoroughly with pressure washers before they are prepared overnight to hit the road the next day.
The service was highly appreciated during the last editions of the Dakar Rally; in 2016 about 1,500 racing and support vehicles got washed in three Kärcher cleaning centers along the route – contributing in this way to the safety of the racing drivers. The assistance demonstrated the efficiency of the company’s equipment even in tough conditions. The washing water used at the stations was collected and recycled.
After a four-year absence, the American tyre brand BFGoodrich has resumed its involvement in the Dakar. Between 1999 and 2012, BFGoodrich won the planet’s most gruelling cross-country adventure no fewer than 12 times with four different partners (Volkswagen, Mini, Mitsubishi and Buggy-Renault).
Today, BFGoodrich is the tyre partner of Team Peugeot-Total, X-Raid and Toyota Gazoo Racing. All three have entered the 39th running of the event which is due to start in Asunción, Paraguay, on January 1, 2017. Renowned for their strength, BFGoodrich tyres are also the preferred choice of numerous amateur competitors whose prime objective is to survive to the finish.
The total length of the 2017 Dakar is approximately 9,000 kilometres. The route will take crews from Paraguay to Bolivia and Argentina via 12 stages that visit the Andes Mountains, Lake Titicaca, the Salar de Uyuni salt flat and the plains of central South America.
BFGoodrich tyres have a long history of rising to bold challenges, ranging from Charles Lindbergh’s landmark trans-Atlantic flight in the Spirit of Saint Louis, to cross-country rallying’s Latin American showpiece.
Toyota, official vehicle of the Dakar Rally organization
As part of its strategy to sponsor motorsport events, Toyota is the new official vehicle of the Dakar Rally organization, with which it shares the exclusive pillars of quality, reliability and durability.
Thus, Toyota will be present for the 2017 edition as the official vehicle of the world's most challenging Rally Raid competition, which challenges not only pilots, but also the vehicles and their teams. It also reflects the spirit and values of Toyota: passion, respect and teamwork.
Toyota's history has been closely linked to the Dakar Rally, ever since its first edition in 1979. In each edition, nearly a third of the participants in the car category have enrolled with Toyota vehicles, making it the most chosen brand worldwide by the teams competing in this demanding and highly competitive event.
As part of this sponsorship, Toyota will provide the mobility of the Dakar Rally organization, with Hilux and SW4vehicles. These vehicles have been leaders in their respective market segments in Argentina for ten consecutive years and are manufactured in the Toyota plant in Zárate, Buenos Aires Province. Moreover, Toyota will give support with the “Toyota Technical Team”, with 15 professional mechanics that will supply technical support to all Toyota vehicles of the Dakar organization throughout the competition.
