“Still the same desire to win”
Marc Coma didn't miss his chance for some personal revenge with the Dakar: 2nd at Lima in 2012, absent due to injury in 2013, last year he wanted to get things straight with himself, the competition and the Dakar, which he hadn't won since 2011…from his victory on the very difficult stage five, followed by his ability to hold on to the leadership all the way to the end, he won going away. His overwhelming triumph, the 4th was just the start to a dominating 2014 season in which he won the Moroccan and Dos Sertoes Rallies as he rode to his sixth career FIM World Cross Country Championship title. Riding for the stable KTM Red Bull team, which continues to be the team to beat, Marc Coma, flanked by his Catalan team mate Jordi Viladoms, runner-up in 2014 and new recruit Sam Sunderland, aspires to once again march on to the top step of the podium in this his 12th participation.
M.C.: “The season was nearly perfect. The win on the Dakar was a sweet victory. Everything came into place on the stage 5 that was a very, very difficult stage for everyone. Then, I did the World Championship that I won with three second places at Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Sardinia and two wins, Brazil and Morocco. I proved that I still have the same desire to win and to be competitive. This motivation is I believe, the principal. I come to the Dakar with this mind set, a perfect bike and a very strong team. Of course, there are four or five riders with a shot at the win, but the key is to ride the stages with concentration. The toughest and most dangerous rival is the race itself…”
