“The goal is to have two cars at the finish”
For Henk Theunissen, the Dakar isn't just an adventure or a race, it's also a business. The car dealer is also a preparator of rally-raid vehicles. He certainly won't be unnoticed at the start of the Dakar in Rosario. Indeed the Dutchman who already came on the Dakar in the Ginaf assistance will be driving his big Dodge Ram, the same car he took to the finish in 2012. Added to that, and unlike most car crews, he'll have two team mates in his Open Score class vehicle: a navigator (Edwin Vand Der Vegt) and a mechanic, Hendrik Van Steenbeck that he hopes won't be too busy. Co-founder and owner of the Go2Dakar team, Henk's goal is to see both his cars reach Valparaiso. His mission will be to keep a permanent eye out for his team mate Willem Kien's Jeep.
H. T.: “I first started the Go2Dakar team business to rent cars for rally races. But the Dakar is the most exciting of all events. You need to have it on your passport. Now it's a dream come true. I keep a great memory of my first Dakar. We made it to the finish and it couldn't have been better. I spent a lot of time towing other cars. That's part of the Dakar spirit. In 2012 only half of the team finished so we have decided to return with the goal to have our two cars at the finish: the Jeep of Willem Kien and my Dodge. We've made some improvements on the car but it isn't a vehicle to compete for a result. My mission is staying behind Kien so he reaches the finish and we also want to enjoy ourselves. Edwin (Van Der Vegt) will be one of my co-driver. He did the Dakar back in 2009 in a GINAF truck. He lives just 3kms away from my home.”
