“Live positive and extreme emotions”
Hadn't it been for a few glasses of red wine and a call from a friend, Francesco Catanese might have never done the Dakar. At the beginning of the year, the Italian was enjoying a few drinks in his hotel room when a friend of his called to tell him the registrations for the Dakar were due to close in 10 minutes. Without time to really think it over and under the influence of maybe a glass too many, Francesco told his mate to sign him up. The next morning he was wondering if he had taken a wise decision. On the 5th of January in Rosario, he'll get a first answer. Part of Franco Picco's team, this keen enduro and off-road specialist will live a dream on his Yamaha WR450 with the goal to enjoy every minute of the Dakar.
“The Dakar is a dream I had as a child and after starting to ride bikes when I was 20, I will now live the dream of competing in the rally. I prepared a lot physically in the gym, doing motocross and eating tagliatelle bolognese. I'm sure this experience will leave me great emotions from the human point of view. I will actually write articles for an Italian motorbike magazine (Motociclismo Fuoristrada) on my adventure. The dream is to finish the race, have fun, live positive end extreme emotions and, of course, not hurt myself! The morning after I had registered for the Dakar thanks to a friend and a few glasses of red wine, I opened my eyes and thought: "Oh my god, what the f… did I do?”
