“More people climbed the Himalaya, than finished the Dakar!”
The quad class has never been so international. Other than the South American contingent, riders from Russia, Qatar and Hungary will be competing on four wheels. Born in Budapest, Matyas Somfai will be one of those newcomers. The 33-year-old who has a strong experience in Baja and FIM World cup races will be part of the Sandlander Team. His goal on his KTM 690 is to finish every single stage of the rally.
“I started riding bikes as a teenager. My first experience with a quad was in 2004. Since then I'm addicted. The Dakar is the biggest challenge there is, the symbol of persistence and power, the test of human limits. I trained as hard as an Olympian, with systematic medical controls and diets. I have 3 different kind of training session a day, to generate my fitness. I prepared in Morocco and Tunisia. One of the trainings was in the middle of summer, when it was 56°C... More people climbed the Himalaya, than fulfilled the Dakar. My goal is to finish every stage.”
