“I can't imagine not going every year”
Gabor Saghmeister has become a regular figure of the Dakar. Present on all the South American editions of the race, finishing four out of five rallies, the Serbian hopes to once again make the best of his motocross skills. In terms of ambition, his only goal is just to finish. Due to an arm injury sustained during the Eastern European championship, he can't hope for more. At 42 years of age his dream is to one day see his sons take on the Dakar challenge, in the footsteps of their dad.
“In 1993 I attended my first MX2 motocross race, and from that day on I fell in love with racing. To take part in the Dakar was a childhood dream of mine that came true in 2009, since then I can't imagine not going every year. I have always lived incredible experiences and that's also why I come back. The best moments are those spent alone in the desert. The worst one was having to cope with mechanical problems during my first Dakar. My ambition for the future is to carry on racing on the Dakar for many years, just as long as my health allows me to do so and I'm still strong enough to go to the gym and train hard.”
