The following two insurance policies have been set up and taken out for participants by the organiser. We advise you to examine them carefully and check that they properly complement your personal insurance policies. In case of shortcomings you should take out additional insurance.
The four following policies, put in place in association with the Gras Savoye insurance broker, are optional but recommended to provide you with proper cover during the rally.
As you may know, the vast majority of normal insurance policies (particularly your car insurance, insurance provided automatically via your bank cards, household insurance, bank loan insurance, etc.) totally exclude the practice of motor sports, whether on an amateur or professional basis, and do not therefore cover the risks involved in your participation in the rally.
It is therefore important that you check the extent of the cover provided by your normal insurance policies (and the exclusions) and, if you are not sufficiently covered or not covered at all, you should contact the insurer of your choice or consider taking out the insurance policies proposed below.
These four insurance policies, whose texts and documents are available by clicking on the link below, are optional (but recommended) and can be taken out immediately, directly through Gras Savoye (website below) or, at the latest, for Individual Accident and Damage to vehicles, at the time of the administrative checks.
We would once again like to raise your awareness of the importance of possessing Individual Accident insurance with Medical Costs cover.

Although Argentina, Chile and Peru are not considered to be “high-risk” countries, it is better to be prudent, as prevention is better than cure. For this reason we strongly advise you to familiarise yourself with the medical information and the recommendations of Florence Pommerie, the rally’s Medical Director. The latter information, provided for preventive reasons, should in no way be a cause of worry to you but is solely intended to allow you to guard against any problems and protect yourself.

For all
As part of the Dakar 2012, we draw your attention to the customs procedures that you need to do.
The crossing of three countries (Argentina, Chile, and Peru) for this new edition requires that you make the utmost care to your paperwork.
For your vehicle and equipment you should be strict and follow the instructions provided by the organization.
In order to comply with customs requirements, and to ensure there are no problems while crossing the borders, all competitors must necessarily have in their vehicle the same spare parts as declared at the outset. (See article 9.6 (Drivers’ code) of regulations).
Every competitor must send this form by e-mail, filled in English or in spanish. We will not accept this form on paper. You must fill all the fields for each equipment, spare part etc… You must fill one form per vehicle.
Vehicles loaded in Le Havre
Competitors who will load their vehicle on the organization boat in Le Havre must return the "equipment form" before November 15th 2011 to Jean Marc Aublanc Piolot: jmaublancpiolot@aso.fr
Vehicles not loaded in Le Havre
Competitors who will not load their vehicle on the organization boat in Le Havre must return the "equipment form" before December 20th 2011 to Waiver (contact below).
Competitors who will enter by their own into Argentina, will have to make a temporary importation of their vehicles and their equipment with a customs broker.
