“The challenge to get a result”
The world of motorsports certainly has in mind Miki Biasion triumphing on the roads of the legendary Monte-Carlo Rally in his Lancia Delta Integrale and conquering two WRC titles in 1988 and 89. The Italian's goal, as he returns to the Dakar, is to be on the highest step of the podium in the truck class. Like when he won two cross-country truck World cups at the end of the 90s, Miki will be driving an IVECO prepared by Team Petronas De Rooy. Alongside Gerard De Rooy and Hans Stacey, the goal is to bring one of the trucks to victory in Lima. After disappointing experiences in cars these last few years, the Italian who will celebrate his 54th birthday on day 7 of the rally has all the ingredients to enter the legend of the Dakar and will have at his side a former winner as a navigator in the truck class, fellow Italian Giorgio Albiero who conquered the title in 1992 with Perlini.
“Until 1996 I was fully focused on WRC races. I then switched to trucks because an opportunity came from IVECO and I went on to win the off-road World Cup. Driving a car on the Dakar was a bigger responsibility. Then again our goal is to make a De Rooy truck win the Dakar. It's still an amusement but I'm a competitor. I try to remain as professional as possible. I have a challenge to get a result. It was great to win in Morocco after a season without driving. I had just come to get kilometres so to win immediately was fantastic. It's excellent for confidence. I don't know what performances can manage the Kamaz trucks but I know that the IVECO is reliable and competitive. I hope we worked enough. We're a team and the team is working to win the Dakar. Everyone is at 150%.”
