Pascal Vincent : «We didn’t have a sufficiently good time»
Despite motorcycling being very much an individual sport, Pascal Vincent can’t imagine the Dakar any other than as three. When he evokes his participation in the rally, the “we” is the rigour and he speaks as much about himself as his sidekicks, Patrick Arnoult and Franck Libbrecht, with whom he started out with in enduro. For the 2009 edition like the previous years, Pascal Vincent hasn’t changed his ambition one iota. “We want to do the race together and finish together”, says Pascal; even more so now because in their last try in 2007, Pascal and Franck didn’t make it to the finish. They pulled off the triple in 2005, finishing 83rd, 84th and 85th. “It was a great moment, but now I have the feeling we didn’t enjoy it as much as we could that we didn’t have a sufficiently good enough time”, Pascal regrets. He knows what it means to finish the Dakar after failing to do so twice due to injury with a broken tibia and fibula in 2003 and then a broken clavicle in 2007.
For this to work, Pascal will count on the trio’s compatibility. “Patrick is very good at figuring out the road book, Franck looks after all the pre-race organisation and I am the best mechanic of the three of us”, says Pascal. The three men have also put all their hope in new KTM bikes that are bigger and more powerful than what they rode the years before.
