Annie Seel : «On the Dakar, we have to give it our all»
One day, Annie Seel asked “why does she compete in rallying.” Her first Dakar in 2002 was “the biggest challenge of her life. I broke my hand on the 4th stage”, Annie remembers. “But I kept going. I fell all the time. I didn’t know why I was there and I cried.” Her incredible will pushed her to nevertheless finish the rally and finish first among the women in the 400cc class.
Today, Annie is back for more on the toughest rally-raid of them all. This is her 3rd participation and she hopes to finish “in the top 20 or 30 overall.” The blonde haired Swede hopes to very soon find the answer to her existential question. “The rally in the desert is the ultimate challenge. We’re alone with our bike, we have to find the right track. We have to give it our all. It’s a fantastic feeling.”
In fact, the 2002 saga transformed Annie Seel. In seven years, her life changed forever. “I said to myself I can accomplish many things but I have to set real objectives .Each one of us can find “our own” Dakar.” As a director of a marketing company and mental coach, Annie knows what she’s talking about. Here level of competence hasn’t stopped progressing. On her second Dakar, in 2007, she just missed out on a fine result, due to a mechanical problem with her bike. But this season she finished 12th on the Pharaons Rally and 24th in the Dakar Series. Two performances that spoke volumes about Annie Seel’s riding skills and her proven mental strength.
