Pedro Bianchi Prata : «Win the 450cc category»
Only one Dakar is enough to “change the life” of Pedro Bianchi Prata. His 2007 ride was Homeric. It changed his regard for others and even more so himself. “To see the joy of the Africans despite their destitution really made me think”, says the professional Portuguese rider. “It made me remember what is essential in life. As for the, race I managed to finish despite a number of technical struggles. I most notably had to ride for several hours without a rear tyre, which meant I also had to spend a night in the desert. I realised what I am capable of.” Braving the difficulties, inch-by-inch to make it to Dakar: this is something that seems obvious to the Porto native. “When I was a child one of my favourite games was imagining that I was taking part in the Dakar”, Pedro remembers. “I competed in my first enduro in 1991 and it was then that I decided to dedicate my entire life to motor racing.”
Today, as a rider and owner Bianchi Prata team, Pedro races in rallies all over the world. “We have 12 riders in the team. We race in the Bajas, enduros and motocross races.” The Dakar remains his number one objective of the year, in as much as Pedro has the goal of “winning the 450cc category.” “That will, of course, be very hard”, he justifies, “but I am in very good shape and my bike, a BMW, is excellent, so…” So, this January 18th, the Portuguese rider could make a much noticed arrival in Buenos Aires.
