Jakub Przygonski : «To become a professional rider»
From his dreams of the desert, to screaming machines and big scares, young Jakub Przygonski’s head should be spinning these days when he rides to the Warsaw Technical University, where he is studying to be an engineer. Already a competitor in the Polish enduro and motocross championships, this 22 year old rider wants to take on another challenge. “The Dakar is a dream for every rider. When I was younger, I followed the rally on Eurosport and it really made me want to do it”.
When the Orlen Team offered him the chance to join their squad on the rally, Jakub Przygonski didn’t hesitate a second. “I am the youngest in the team, it’s thanks to them I have sponsors”. In taking this young man under their wings, Jarek Czachor and Marek Dabrowski know they have made a solid choice. The young Pole, in fact, began racing motorcycles at the tender age of nine…and he has plenty of skills despite his age.
Jakub Przygonski would love, someday, to turn professional. But nothing is ever a given, especially in Poland where, “there aren’t that many riders,” he says. “It is an expensive sport.” For now; Jakub remains focused on his studies and envisions going to work in the “automobile industry”.
For his first Dakar, “Kuba” would like to finish, even though his manager, aware of his inexperience, thinks he has the potential to finish in the top 20. To make it to the end, the Pole will be able to rely on his solid fitness. He swam when he was a kid and he continues to stay fit by jogging, bicycling and even parachuting.
