Rob Van Pelt : «I never exceed 120km/h»
The Dakar in South America? A relief for Dutchman Rob Van Pelt, who is looking for a new challenge after several races that “were a little too easy” for his taste. The car dealer has absolutely nothing to worry about: the 2009 edition will quench his thirst for extreme sensations.
Rob is one of those men who helped forged the Dakar legend. From seven participations, all on a motorbike, he has five finishes none lower than 35th place. In 2007 he finished 28th and was first among the unassisted riders…This father of two plans to hold on to his title. His method? “Ride using my head, take care of myself and the bike”, Rob explains, underscoring the fact he never exceeds “120km/h”.
To answer the physical challenge the Dakar represents without assistance, Rob Van Pelt follows a meticulous and very physically demanding training program. With three rides per week and as many trips to the gym, he is in nearly the same shape he was when he began riding at the age of 20. You can count on him making it to Buenos Aires in record time.
