Frédéric Lepan: "I hope the stages will be difficult"
Frédéric Lepan speaks quickly and a lot. In the schools of the area of Embreville in the Somme region during banquets or other meetings to find sponsors or when he meets journalists from local press, he just can’t stop talking about his travels. "In the area, everyone knows me in a radius of 50km", he laughs.
His adventure is related on a daily basis by his friend Bertrand on the website www.fredlepan.com, because he doesn’t really have the time, spent mostly on his machine. Luckily for him, the purification company in which he works is managed by his uncles and that leaves him time to focus on his passion.
Looking at his record on the Dakar, one can only say that it pays off. In 6 appearances, the star of the Somme has never quit. Even better than that, he’s always finished between the 53rd and the 20th position overall at the finish. A real performance for this motocross fanatic who had to “forget all he knew” on a bike to take part in the Dakar.
“When I finished my first Dakar in 2002, it took me three months to recover”, he now remembers. The novelty of the challenge, on an unknown terrain doesn’t scare him. “All the ingredients” seem to be gathered for the race to be beautiful in Argentina and Chile. Frederic will be going there with a double objective: “to ride to have fun and play a role in the lead”. And one wish: “that the stages will be difficult…”
