David Barrot : «I hope to finish between 30th and 50th place »

His bike racing history is long: several ‘Bol d’Or’ 24-Hours and a superbike career. David Barrot the internationally known, pulsating, 40-something road racer will now attack the Dakar. Closely affiliated with David Frétigné, who convinced him to give rally-raid a try. He has worked assiduously for the past year for the January classic. “We worked every weekend with David. We rode either at my place or his place at Villefranche-de-Rouergue, and I feel I am in great physical shape.” David has always kept in top form. Owner of a fitness club in Narbonne, he also rides quads and competes in a lot of foot and mountain bike races. “I run half-marathons regularly, like the Lézignan raid event. But I only can manage around one hour, 45-minutes over the 21 kilometres. I also like doing mountain bike races like the 50kms of Font-Romeu.” David knows he has a lot of competition experience. If you throw in his motorcycle knowledge you have a rookie with some solid credentials. “In fact, I have three ambitions. First, I want to go all the way. Next, if needed, I will do everything for David Frétigné. If I have to give him a wheel, I’ll do it. He hasn’t asked me to but it is my way of paying him back for all that he has done for me. He doesn’t know it but I will be there. If everything goes okay, my third ambition is competitive; I am aiming to finish between the 30th and 50th place.” In addition, David will be riding nearly in his own backyard; a regular visitor to Argentina to visit an oenologist friend, he has a fan club 80 kms from Mendoza: the Moto Extremo Tupungato, named after a 655 metre high dormant volcano. This easy going rookie has reason to set his sights high.
