Romeo Duicu: “A unique opportunity”
At the end of December, Romeo Duciu lived a rather funny week. The kind of week that one doesn’t forget. Mateis, his son, was born. And the Vectra Team confirmed he would take part in the 2009 Dakar. Obviously, Romeo wasn’t able to have an optimal preparation, but this bike fanatic who anyhow rides every day is ready to take on the challenge of the January rally. With the blessing of his family: “Everyone at home told me to go for it. They told me it was a unique opportunity”. So off goes Romeo… He gathers what his team mates have taught him. And he especially keeps in mind the words of their leader David Casteu: “It’s very tough. The Dakar is the Dakar”. With these words in mind, Romeo just hopes to finish: “Whatever the position”. The Dakar is for him a dream that was until now unreachable. “I just saw some broadcasts on TV. I wanted to do it but I knew that I didn’t have the possibility”. The Vectra team changed the situation and the withdrawal of Alexandru Garbacea did the remaining part. Romeo added a little something to his rookie’s experience through the example of Frans Verhoeven: “I rode with him during the training sessions of the team in the Carpates. Just by watching him, you learn a lot”.
