Philippe Dasse: “Endless hours repairing KTMs”
Philippe Dasse wants to understand everything. “Know all about the logistics, the mechanical part and the preparation at the bivouac. It’s the best way not to lose too much time. There are so many things: the equipment, the way to use the GPS…” Knowledge as a tool for performance: a point of view he already used on the Dakar. That was two years ago when after failing to take part in the race in the Easydentic team, Philippe decided to start anyhow, on the track but as part of the technical assistance. “I learned a lot”, he now explains, spending hours preparing the KTM bikes, and sure to have made the best of an extra 24 months of preparation. “It’s quite simple: I was able to see most of the big problems that the bikers can suffer. For example, when you ride 800 kilometres every day at 90 km/h, an air filter badly set up can mean a broken engine”.
This time, this KTM dealer from Vauvenargues can finally consider wearing a race bib. But after the recent defection of his partner Ludivine Puy, he finds himself alone in his team. “It’s a shame because I enjoyed riding with her”, he regrets. But the biker, who will benefit from the assistance truck of Thierry Bethys, isn’t too worried. Even in the worst moments, he’ll be able to count on his solid technical skills.
