Charles Caron: «Retirement thanks to a €1.50 part »

Charles Caron knows better than anyone what going through hell on the Dakar is like. He has experienced all the ironies of the rally. For his first attempt in 2006 he dropped out due to a defective €1.50 part. “An ignition spline”, Charles Caron specifies with dismay. «The Dakar can come down to very little. The following year he was well determined to finish the rally but Charles thought bad luck struck him again on day two, while still in Portugal, when he fell in a ravine at…15km/h. He was able to continue, but a week later he had a second misadventure when he broke his left hand. Yet it was not enough to discourage him. Charles Caron went on to cross the finish line. “I thought my hand was just twisted, during the rally I didn’t know exactly what was wrong with it”, he remembers. “It wasn’t until I returned to France that I found out it was broken.”

He is back for the 2009 edition. «When you love motorcycling you can’t stop.” Charles Caron’s goal is to make it to the finish in Buenos Aires. And with reason, during the Rally of Tunisia in the spring of 2008, he broke his arm. Four months off the bike, but Charles will be at the start. But once again it seemed he was riding under a black cloud.
