Dominique Marcant: «A good moral, stay smart»
Dominique Marcant will be gritting his teeth on the Dakar. He separated his shoulder during an enduro race two months before the start. «I was beaten», he said at the time. He will nevertheless be at the start of the 2009 edition and he knows just how physically demanding it will be. More than ever before his goal will be to finish the rally. And Dominique Marcant knows all about finishing in difficult conditions. After blowing his engine in 2003, he finished the Dakar thanks in large part to a friend who towed him with a 4X4 for 350 kilometers so that he could finish within the allotted time.
Since that race, Dominique Marcant has trained six months per year. Owner of a motorbike store, he has become an expert in preparing machines for the rally. «Preparation for the Dakar begins in May and June, and it isn’t improvised», believes Marcant. The training regiment for the 1.92m, 87kg Frenchman is classic: jogging, weight lifting and enduro competition. And absolutely no superstitions during the rally. «You just need a good moral and stay smart».
While he will benefit from assistance this year, Dominique Marcant will also help two friends with whom he will share the experience. He will, once again, be associated with his children’s school that will follow his peregrinations in Argentina and Chile and will await to hear his many stories from his South American adventure.
