Eduardo Campoy López: «A new adventure»

«I am expecting a lot from this Dakar». Eduardo Campoy is a fervent partisan of the January event and doesn’t hide his enthusiasm about the idea of discovering a new terrain. «Everything will be new. It is a new adventure.» And to make it more difficult, Eduardo will set off in a truck. It is his way of experiencing other things in the race. He will drive his Mercedes 2635 in the race, ready to lend a helping hand, in the rapid service roll for José Manuel Salinero. A logical choice for this realistic farmer who analysis, without deviation, his perspectives on the Dakar. «I chose the truck because I didn’t have any chance of doing better in a car.»

In 2007, Eduardo Compoy finished his second consecutive Dakar with a 96th place result overall. A modest performance in which he was satisfied because for an amateur like him, there are always intangibles. In that 2007 edition, Eduard and co-driver David Molina spent an entire night in Mauritania repairing the damage to their Toyota HDJ 80. They finished the job just minutes before the start of the next stage and drove on, without sleep, for hundreds of kilometers. «For us it wasn’t anything more than the competition, like at the start in Lisbon. And the people back home understood what we went through and what the Dakar represents. In making it to Lake Rose, we finally lived the dream of so many: arrive despite it all.» This year Eduardo thus has switched to a truck. His other dream that he will share with fellow El Ejido native and top notch mechanic Francisco Maldonado, who will also look after the navigation for this all Andalusian team.
