Zsolt Darazsi: "Born to drive trucks"
When asked to comment his best result on the Dakar, a 16th spot overall in 2005 after a fierce race, Hungarian Zsolt Darazsi remains extremely calm: "what can I say? It was just a great performance". Under the modesty of words, one can however feel great pride. Not a surprise: for the Budapest native, a Baja specialist, the January rally is more than a simple physical and technical challenge. It’s almost a reason to live. "I’m a trucker and I’m a competitor. It’s my main identity, I was born to drive trucks", he clearly explains.
Since 2002, and his first journey towards the Lac Rose, Zsolt Darazsi hasn’t missed out on any edition of the legendary race. He takes on the 2009 edition in a family spirit. In one of the RTL Motorsports team cars will indeed be his brother Gabor, a co-driver and 18th of the 2005 event with driver Lazslo Palik. He will therefore follow with attention the family progression… But the main goal remains to “have fun”, on a South American course that promises to be “especially difficult”. To reach Buenos Aires, this real leader will be able to count on his co-driver Robert Kis and his mechanic Bahor Beata.
