Luisa Elena Trucco: "The Dakar is a big family"

She is one of the race women to have started the Dakar on several occasions in a truck and the first Italian of the class. Even though she admits that her status helps her find budgets - "it remains difficult" she however regrets - Luisa Elena Trucco doesn’t want to use her feminine side too much: "I was a bit worried the first time I started but the Dakar is a big family", explains the young lady. Taking off for her fourth rally, Luisa Elena Trucco has two goals wishes: “That the truck manages to start. That it reaches the finish line”. The unfavourable financial conditions forced Germano, the youngest of the Pattono brothers to stay in Italy. As a result to that, his big brother Corrado will be the only co-driver of Lisa Elena. Does that mean that the race will be even tougher? “No”, says the Italian from Piemonte. “For my first Dakar (2005), I was alone with him and we had finished 13th, without assistance”. There is therefore no reason to panic this year knowing that Luisa Elena will have an assistance team and the precious experience of Corrado Pattono (18 Dakar rallies – 5th position in 2001). It was through Corrado that Luisa Elena discovered the universe of rally trucks. "I went to buy a bike in Corrado’s shop”, she remembers. “I saw pictures of the Dakar on the walls and we therefore talked about it. He then made me try a truck. Actually when I did the rally the first time, I had just had my truck licence!" laughs the young lady with a rather original life. When she isn’t in her truck, Luisa Elena indeed responsible of a breading structure and a refuge for dogs.
