Bertrand Le Blevec: “The Dakar radiates an incredible sympathy”
It was written. Born on a 14th of January in Dakar, Bertrand Le Blevec just had to make it to the end for his first appearance with a finish happening on the 14th of January 2006 on the shores of the Lac Rose… “I even finished first of my class (superproduction 250 cm3)”, triumphantly relates this 46-year-old from the Indre-et-Loire region of France, deeply touched since his first experience in the race by “the incredible sympathy that radiates from the Dakar”.
He had been dreaming of the race for close to thirty years. After a first experience in a Tunisian rally in 1998, a rather unexpected meeting with a sponsor allowed him at the age of 46 to finally know “if (I) was capable of doing it”. Today he knows. But since 2007 he also knows that nothing is clearly set in the race. “I smashed the bones of a hand after an accident in Nema. Nothing too bad but I still had to quit”. His disappointment was only brief and Bertrand comes back this year as enthusiastic as ever. The destination of this 2009 Dakar has a lot to do with his excitement. “The Andes Mountains, the Atacama Desert… It’s my main motivation”. With no real objective concerning the overall, he will however try to “ride with the 100 best riders”. But this company manager mainly hopes to witness encounters as amazing as those he lived during his first two odysseys. Like that unreal meeting with René Metge, “in the middle of the night, in the middle of the desert” or that Moroccan bivouac “exclusively for bikers wearing local slippers and sleeping on typical Moroccan mattresses”. Great moments that he intends on sharing, through his thoughts with his family… “Thank you Iritrack!”
