Jorge Murano: «Alone in the car, a rally against myself»
This is first Dakar, but it isn’t really his first Dakar. 41-year old Jorge Murano has already fed his automobile passion on the most famous rally-raid in the world eight times as team manager of the Rallyraid.com team. This year, for the first time, he will be behind the wheel of one of his vehicles, a prototype that he built himself, and that will line up for just the second time on the Dakar.
This isn’t the only particularity of the jovial linguist, who will take on the Argentinean and Chilean tracks…by himself, without a co-driver. “This is the real challenge”, Jorge says with confidence. “This is a rally against myself, which is very hard and very long”, on which he will navigate with the help of “the same road book as the bike riders”. These are very unique conditions. But is Jorge worried? « I’ll tell you after the rally! » He does have one major concern, which is understandable for a driver who will be on his own on the Dakar: «Remain stuck in the sand…”
Born in Buenos Aires, Jorge made his way to Europe when he turned 18 and never returned. But after numerous years spent in Milan, he has thought about returning to Argentina for some time to create a tourism business. The Dakar in South America was the opportunity to make his return and Jorge along with his wife will move to Buenos Aires for good following the conclusion of the rally that he hopes to finish, if everything goes well, in a car that will display the colours of Boca Juniors, the legendary football club of the Argentinean capital that was the side a certain Maradona played for.
