Joan Rodríguez Simón: “If we can tear along, we will!”
“I often experienced the Dakar through my friends. I saw the start of the race in Barcelona. I saw it on TV but now I see it from the inside”, explains Joan Rodriguez Simon. This will to do the Dakar is almost natural when you live in Llagostera. An unknown little village of Catalunya, there are among the 4.000 inhabitants three keen competitors on the January event. Jordi Llinas Gavilan who finished 5th of the 2005 quad World Championship in Lyon. Joan Pujolar who now has eight appearances on the Dakar including a 28th position overall as the co-driver of Xavier Foj in 2006. And Joan who is about to discover the extent of the race. With quite some confidence due to a season during which the Nissan Navarra that he drives finished 42nd of the Baja España. “There were 128 crews at the start”, insists Joan. “For this Dakar, I’m very happy to take part with a car that we have tested and is reliable”. Jordí and Joan don’t think they can race to win but Joan Rodríguez does not exclude any possibility. “If we can tear along, we will!” His co-driver, Francesc Codina, has taken part in the rally on five occasions in an assistance vehicle. His change of status does not however impress him: “Everything will be new for everyone and that will put almost every crew on a same level”.
