Iginio Voorhorst : «To start and finish as friends»
Iginio Voorhorst and Jos Van Bergen Henegouw would have undoubtedly preferred to do the Dakar on motorcycles. ”I am doing it in a car because I am responsible for 30 people in my business and a motorcycle is too risky”, says Iginio, the driver. “If you find me the money I will do it on a bike”, kids Jos. The two Dutchmen, who have known one another for 30 years, and who are more accustomed to enduro or motorcycles rallies, will now share the cockpit of their Desert Warrior.
“Obviously our primary objective will be to finish the rally”, announces Iginio. “Then I’d also like that Jos and I start and finish as friends. We get along great in the car, but we’ll be in a difficult situation being very close to each other for two weeks and that is something you have to be ready to live with.” 43-year old Iginio is finally ready to experience “a wonderful adventure” on the Dakar. “I opened my own business 15 years ago, which meant I had to be serious, I didn’t have leisure time. Now, the business is doing well so its time to have some fun.” Jos has a bit of prior Dakar experience when he worked in an assistance role. “The hardest part will be the mental side,” Jos predicts. “You have to stay focused. I am used to reading a road book, but I have to teach Iginio how to dictate.”
