David Pabiska : «Finish higher up the order than last time»
“People of strong mental character and a great amount of motivation. » David Pabiska defines the “Dakar spirit”. He enjoyed his first Dakar in 2007 from start to finish with a 42nd place finish overall and 8th among the rookies when all was said and done. And he did it without assistance. He hopes to do even better this year, thanks to the truck of fellow Czech Martin Macek. “I will only have to concentrate on my riding”. He won’t have to worry about mechanical or logistic problems that are also a part of the rally.
So his goal for 2009 is an ambitious one. « The top 20; that is to say somewhere between first and 20th », he specifies mischievously. “We are realistic. We’re not pros, but we’re not here to cruise around either. We are competitive. We will do everything we can do to get the most out of the bike.”
David Pabiska, who has been riding a motorcycle since he was 13, will also have a small advantage in having already ridden in South America and have a little familiarity with the environment of the rally. A mechanic by trade, he’s also a member of the Czech national motorcycle rally team and is followed closely by his big brother, who also happens to be his team manager. “He calls me everyday to keep up on my training!” Physically fit, now all that is left for David to do is apply the principles that according to him make for a good rider: “Respect, knowledge, honesty, drive and intelligence.”
