Josep Roca: "The Dakar is magical"
In one sentence Josep Roca says it all. For him the Dakar "is magical". He discovered that in 2004 when he went to the finish with friends. When one likes motorsports and can be the first representative of a country to finish such an adventure, one does the necessary to manage such a feat. With his compatriot Gerard Vidal Farras they made it to the 13th stage and then failed again in 2006, during the 11th. The dream is still as strong this year for their third attempt. "What I like is the contrast between the place where I live and the desert". Josep Roca, like all Andorrans, has a passion for mountains. He needed an event like the Dakar to push him to leave them behind. With his car prepared by expert mechanic Ariel Jaton and the creation of a team of two vehicles, the synergy found with Ferran Font has given a new strength to the project to reach Dakar. “I will drive the car planned for last year, on which we have made modifications. Essentially the suspensions. Added to the fact that Ariel prepared the car, he knows his country Argentina well. We thought that it would be tougher on the car because there will be, according to us, more track stages”. After a good Baja Aragon 2008, that allowed the crew to prepare in a real competition, Josep is confident: “The goal is indeed to unfold the Andorran flag in Buenos Aires on the 18th of January. Not on the 3rd…’’
