Martine Pereira : “Know how to take good care of the car”

The Dakar is the great 2009 discovery for Martine Campos Pereira. What he knows about it only comes from the discussions he’s had with team mate Adelio Machado and his co-driver José Manuel Teixera Marques. And the way he considers it is described in few words: “It’ll be very difficult. You need to be smart in the race. Know how to take good care of the car. But they mainly told me that it was a super race. That it was unique and really beautiful”. Martine is a fan of motorsports and takes part in several circuit races. Third of the 2008 Portuguese championship, he won two stages in his class (cat.3): at Valencia and at Portimao. He also enjoys going to see F1 races like in Monaco in 2004. Off-road version Dakar will therefore be a totally new experience that he prepared by taking part the Frontera 24 Hours in 2008 where he finished 11th out of 100 cars at the start. Martine however knows that the Dakar is really something else and he prepared consequently by training seriously in a gym. His goal is simple: “To finish. And if possible to be the first Portuguese in the T2 class”. His co-driver, José Manuel Teixera Marques has the experience of a Dakar in 2006 in car number 321 driven by Helder Oliveira: “I learned that a Dakar is very difficult and that the car must work perfectly. That year we had suffered mechanical problems every day before quitting the race during the Zouerat – Atar stage”. José, a co-driver in traditional rallies or regularity rallies built his confidence by finishing 4th of the last Transiberico. Ahead of Peterhansel.
