Albert Vanierschot: “Long marathons rather than sprints”
Albert Vanierschot accumulates the Dakars with the same will and the same faith than at his debuts on the race. The gentleman is almost sixty and for over forty years now he’s been competing on almost all the racing cars that exist… except for a Formula 1. Today he has made a job out of his passion having indeed founded the AD-Sport team that prepares competition cars. When he discovered the Dakar at the end of the eighties, he immediately caught the virus. For a man of competition who likes speed and adventure, the off-road rally is obviously a perfect cocktail that takes almost all of his time during the year. Rather well ranked on three occasions (in the Top 30 in 1999, 2000 and 2004) Albert however expects to suffer with the altitude and the heat of this 31st edition. “I’m happy to discover South America but I’m disappointed to have such a high race number: 398 is far off”. Focused on his race, Albert will also have en eye on the four cars he prepared and rented. A goal among others that he will share with his co-driver Kris Bulens. This orthopaedist from Brussels will take part in his 6th Dakar: “We’re a bit concerned by the climate but we prepared the car well at it will be able to face altitudes close to 5000 metres high”.
