Jan Domburg : «I will never drive on a circuit»
Aart Bosman and Jan Domburg have never raced together and have never taken part in a rally like the Dakar. But when you ask them if this inexperience scares them both men smile. “There will be no problems, we have been friends for more than 30 years and we will get along fine for two weeks in the car”, Aart explains.
The two Dutchman couldn’t be more pleased the 2009 Dakar is taking place in South America and freely admit that of the rally was being run in Africa, they wouldn’t have entered. This crew will be looking for adventure in Argentina and Chile. “Generally speaking, I don’t like motor racing, but the Dakar is different, it is an adventure”, Jan concedes. “I will never drive on a circuit.” An opinion Aart fully shares: “It is because the Dakar is special, you get to drive in places where you usually don’t have access to.” The two retirees from Holland, where the altitude is generally below sea level, do have their concerns about the Andes. “It will be, without a doubt, the biggest difficulty on this new Dakar”, Aart predicts. “And in Holland, we can’t train for that, so we will take medication with us.”
