Arunas Lekavicius : «At least in the top 50»
Arunas Lekavicius is ambitious and he’s not hiding it. More than anything else, it is the spirit of competition that pushes him to go harder on the tracks, “I put a lot of importance in the final standings”, says the Lithuanian. “I haven’t done the Dakar for the past six years. I worked all year to obtain my car.” Arunas learned the importance of having a reliable car the hard way. In three participations, (2000, 2002, 2003), he dropped each time due to a mechanical problem.
But Arunas is not ready to give up. These three disappointments did nothing to dampen his extraordinary enthusiasm. “It is still an excellent experience. The Dakar remains one of the greatest races in the world. It is the longest and most difficult. “In his six year absence, the 40-something Arunas acquired solid rally-raid experience. Hs regular participations in raids in Lithuania and Poland have allowed him to strengthen his confidence. “Our car is really excellent. We can finish if not in the top 30 at least the top 50.” He created his own team to accord himself the best possible chance of success.
His co-driver, 61-year old Ramunas Kruckauskas, is making his Dakar debut. The Lithuanian duo will be looking to enjoy themselves, while not jus tracing to make up the numbers. Here’s to them driving their way to the finish in Buenos Aires.
