Philippe Gosselin: “We’ll remember it for a long time, like for the Paris-Cape town”

It won’t take away their good humour, but this Dakar looks to be “a bit of a hassle” for Philippe Gosselin and David Bonon. This crew of bakers teamed up at the last minute. After the defection of his friend Serge Serreau for a health reason, Philippe thought of his brother-in-law, a learner in terms of co-driving but certainly not the worst of mechanics. “I spent three years at Ford”, simply explains David who didn’t hesitate for long before saying yes to this adventure with Philippe. “It’s a unique opportunity, it happens just once in a life”. David started motocross at the age of five and never gave up motorsports. He knows the world of competition by heart. And co-driving? Slightly less. “I don’t want to worry too much about it”, explains David who will be able to count on his mechanical skills and his past off-road rally experiences on quads. “Mentally, it’s not a problem. There are no reasons why it shouldn’t go well”. Philippe absolutely wanted to come back on the Dakar after his experience in 2007 when he finished 63rd overall. “A Dakar in South America… We’ll remember it for a long time, like for the Paris-Capetown!” Plunged in the world of rallies thanks to Etienne Smulevici, this father of three knew that he would quickly come back to the race: “Once you’ve done the Dakar, you want to come back!”
