Jun Mitsuhashi: ‘’In French I only know the navigation vocabulary!’’

“I don’t speak a word of English, admits Bruno Cattarelli. Thankfully Jun lived in France and therefore speaks a little French”. That makes Japanese driver Jun Mitsuhashi laugh. He explains that in French he only knows “the navigation vocabulary”. This multilingual crew is probably not the one that will communicate in the easiest way during the race, but they remain serious competitors for a Top 20 spot and victory in the T2 class, the real objective of the team. “Our car doesn’t allow us to hope for more”, confesses Bruno Cattarelli. With 19 appearances the co-driver has quite some expertise: “We need the specials to be long and demanding”, he adds. “Indeed our car isn’t very fast but it’s enduring”. After so many years on the most legendary of rallies, the Frenchman “doesn’t exactly know how many drivers” he has had. “Around ten”. And even on the eve of his 20th Dakar, he explains he’s far from bored. “I will carry on just as along as the will is still present and just as long as I have a place in the team”. Bruno never was a driver but sitting behind the steering wheel “doesn’t tempt him”. Jun Mitsuhashi that he appreciates “as a driver and as a man” is about to witness the Dakar for the 8th consecutive time. And the Japanese driver has a characteristic. Today behind the steering wheel of a car, he had already competed in 3 Dakars… on a bike.
