Jérôme Pélichet: “Partners on the rallies like in life”

One adventure for two, the first on the Dakar. For Jérôme Pélichet and girlfriend Eugénie Decré 2007 was to be the year they made their debut in the car division on the longest rally in the world. Instead of how they spent January…in France. Due to “several minor speeding infractions” that saw Jerôme lose his driving license just weeks before the start of the race. “A huge disappointment,” remembers Eugénie, who was really looking forward to experiencing the Dakar. After the cancellation of the 2008 edition, this adventurous couple is about to head to Buenos Aires as motivated as ever. “That’s all we’re waiting for”, admits Jerome. “The Andes Mountains, the great open spaces, the new countries, the new people, it’s mouthwatering”. And this year, everything is ready: the Bowler Wild 4, the material and … Jérôme’s driving licence! Everything looks to be nicely sorted out: this year, the crew finished 4th of the Transorientale, 3rd of the Pharaohs Rally like in 2007. “It’s going well”, says delighted Jérôme. As for the driver co-driver coordination, Jérôme and Eugénie are rather cool: “Eugénie is my partner in rally as well as in life”, Jérôme confirms. In fact, it was Jérôme who transmitted the Dakar “virus” to the young Swiss lady. “At first, I was really into tarmac racing. Doing the Dakar was never something I thought about, until 2005…just until I found out that a certain Jérôme Pélichet was looking for a co-driver,” Eugénie recalls. And thus began the Pélichet-Decré pairing, in racing and soon in life.
