Michael Pisano: “I’m going to suffer physically!”
“In Corsica everyone knows each other. So obviously Corsicans who do the Dakar are known to us”. Michael Pisano started riding bikes at the age of 4. Today at 25, he isn’t yet a star but his departure for the great South American meeting has an impact on the island, where the local daily Corse-Matin regularly mentions his evolution.
This year the man from Ajaccio followed a rigorous training preparation thanks to the help of the other Corsican registered in the Dakar, the already experienced Michel Marchini. His appearances at the Tunisia Rally (2nd) and the Shamrock (6th) have ideally conditioned him for his first Dakar.
A Grande Premiere that the Corsican tackles with slight apprehension: “I’m going to suffer physically, especially with the altitude. And I’m taking off for the unknown. All I know about South America is what I saw on TV, internet or what friends have described’’. Anyhow, ‘Mika’ says he’s “ready to give 100%”. He ignores almost everything of the “very technical” course. He however knows that there will be “a lot of sinuous tracks. And that’s good news”.
In South America, Michael Pisano will be able to count on the “Corsican solidarity”, alongside Michel Marchini. And to take on the Argentinean and Chilean stages, he decorated his helmet and his bike with the Corsican emblem, the Moorish head.
