Yvan Muller: “I’m back for training”
At age 38, Yvan Muller is probably one of the most talented French drivers. As long as a Dakar special, his record is big enough to impress the drivers, professionals or amateurs that will be battling it out with him during the Dakar. From karting to WTCC, he has witnessed all the different car categories and competitions. Winner of ten Trophée Andros between 1996 and 2006, the one used to be presented as the king of ice is back in the sand and the tracks for his second Dakar. After a rather positive experience with René Metge as his co-driver and a decent 22nd position overall, Yvan Muller takes off for a new adventure: “It’s almost as if I was starting all over again. I learnt a lot from René, but now I will discover a new continent and also navigation. I’ve never done any and my fully booked agenda since my World title didn’t allow me to become familiar with this aspect”. Registered in the World touring car Championship for Seat, Yvan’s season started in March and finished triumphantly in November, didn’t leave him the slightest margin to prepare. Behind the steering wheel of his single-seater buggy, he will therefore live a new “training” Dakar as he describes his second appearance: “I was just able to find a few days at the end of December to be able to show up in Buenos Aires ahead of time and really dive into the Dakar environment”.
