Yann Pignet: «I’m here for total adventure»
You are never better served than when you do it yourself. In the case of Yann Pignet this is religion. Last October, he was supposed to set off on the 10th ’Deuche Evasion’ rally in Tunisia as a co-driver. In the end he preferred to climb on his machine and ride. «It was a lot more interesting. So I put the Dakar and my quad to one side and tinkered with a 2CV chassis and parts from ten other 2CV carcasses I bought along the way. » Yann is a fighter and a pragmatist. He is a curious type who loves to sink his teeth into a new challenge. «I’m rather curious by nature. When I find something new that I like, I go for it. I also have the capability of reusing things I have learned. The discipline needed to fly a plane allows me to be demanding in other areas. » He has a simple plan for the Dakar. «I had just five days and nights to prepare the quad. Like with the 2CV, I chose the simple, sturdy and easy to repair option. In any case, without assistance, it isn’t worth getting lost in the set-ups to gain 5km/h. I know I will spend 10 hours per day on the quad. » The multilingual rider comes to the Dakar after viewing the rally on French Television and with a philosophy that is in step with the event’s history. «What interests me most is the total adventure aspect. That is also why I do not want assistance. »
