Anton Gonnissen : «The generation of discovery and travel»
“I think I can be the first to finish the Dakar in a truck, a car and on a quad.” Behind the singularity, Anton’s ambition isn’t sporting. It is affective. He wants to finish the Dakar with his two friends Kurt and Jos. “I did the 2000 Dakar in a car with Kurt Dujardyn and Jos was our team manager.” In 2004, he completed the rally in the number 438 truck. Anton is accustomed to taking on challenges with friends. Every year, he participated in a group project outside the realm of sport. “We’re group of 12 friends that sets off, always on motorcycles and we ride across countries or zones that we’ve never been to before. This year it was Bolivia. We have already been to South Africa and India.” The Dakar is on the list of new things to do and discover. Anton, experienced enough to take on all sorts of situations, appreciates this side of life: “We are the generation that can travel and discover. Our parents didn’t have the airplane and I am very pessimistic for the future. I think that the world is going to close up. » The Dakar has logically become a particular goal for Anton, and he is very pleased with the evolution of the Dakar. “South America is perfect. The distance of the stages will be the most problematic: a quad isn’t very fast. It will be hard for us to run in the tracks. It will be very hard this year.” Anton keeps fit by jogging 60 kilometres per week and he’s a regular participant in the Knock-le-Zoute triathlon.
