Jean-Claude Auert: “A family affair”
Jean-Claude Auert leaves nothing to chance. Aware of the size of the challenge, which he has promised to take on, he’s doing everything he can to have luck on his side. “Antoine Morel (from the same team) is very professional. He explained to me what had to be done to lighten my quad. I answered by saying that I had to lose some weight.”
Jean-Claude Auert began by dropping 13 kilograms, with two weight training sessions per week and spending six hours on his quad every weekend. There’s no fooling around on the Dakar.
This year with in mind South America, Jean-Claude competed in several events: during the two Dakar Series in Hungary and Portugal, the Morocco Rally and the Pharaoh’s Rally, he showed how patient, tenacious and courageous he was. He “always made it to the finish”. And his son Brice never let him down.
In the Auert clan, the quad is a family affair. Father and son work for the same architecture firm. And they will be together at the start line in Lisbon for their first participation. “I have been thinking about the Dakar for 20 years,” confides Jean Claude. “This is a childhood dream I will living out with my son.”
His only wish: to make his dream come true and reach the finish line in Buenos Aires. “Making the distance will be the toughest part. I told Brice: it’s out of the question to take off like crazy and injure at the 5th stage”. Experience is talking. Linked to the energy of his son, the Auert duo could well impress.
