Christophe Declerck: « "The Dakar, a fulfillment"
Quad not only is his passion, it’s also his job. Christophe Declerck manages a company that organizes quad raids in the desert. After having collected trophies in rally-raids, he’s decided to show up for the first time on the start line of the Dakar. "After the rallies of Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey, the Dakar seemed the obvious option. It’s a fulfillment when you do off-road races".
Winner of the 2006 Rally-Raid World Cup, Christophe Declerck is a serious contender for the overall win in the quad category. His goal will be to remain humble as he will confront the event he will take part in for the first time this year. I will have to take it easy at the start, be careful early to find my pace.»
It is difficult for this busy man to find the necessary time for an intense physical preparation. He knows that it’s possibly his weak point. On the other hand he is very confident in his machine, a Yamaha 700 Raptor. "Preparing on a quad is 50% of the rally, he believes. Today the machines are very good. That’s why I am impressed by the pioneers of the discipline like Daniel Giroud (the first quad rider to finish the Dakar back in 1997). A quad will never be as competitive as a bike or a car. Over 150 km/h, the driving becomes very dangerous". That fact doesn’t however take away the pleasure he has when he jumps on his quad. A pleasure he wishes to share through his knowledge.
