Gerard Farres Guëll: “This Dakar is a great opportunity for me”

The career of Gerard Farres, full of titles, has now taken an important turn. This young enduro specialist of Malleu, Catalonia, has bet it all on raids and comes to his second Dakar as factory rider for Repsol. “This is a great opportunity for me. I had been training all year with Marc Coma and Jordi Viladoms in the Monegros region and Jordi Arcarons had told me that I could count on them for the Dakar”. Gerard Farres, who was awarded the title of Best Rookie in 2006, curiously comes back to the Dakar as a beginner. “In my first Dakar now three years ago, I did not learn much. I raced and I barely looked at my road book. With this team, during my training I have learned how to use it and how to use it better.” The focus of this Dakar is very clear for the third rider of the KTM Repsol team: “My objective is to finish the Dakar. The team is not interested in me finishing in a good position. I will be there to reach the finish line in Buenos Aires and help Marc and Jordi”. Gerard raced his first Dakar with an injured knee and was not able to enter in 2007 due to lack of sponsors one month before the start in Lisbon. He knows what this opportunity means to his career. “I learned a lot thanks to them. Now I have to work for Marc Coma and Jordi Viladoms. Then will come the time to see what I can do on a Dakar”. Happy and worried at the same time due to the novelty of the course, Gerard was bothered in his preparation by a broken arm during the last Dubaï Rally.
