Bozo Ristic : « 7 000 kilometres in China with a broken bike»
Bozo Ristic has dreamed about participating in the Dakar for two years. Last year, he was too late in sending in his entry form. This year, finally, he’s in. And for Bozo, who will be one of two Serbs in the rally, there is no question of acting the clown. His physical training was meticulous. « Throughout the entire year, I rode my motorbike twice a week for four hours; I jogged and went to the gym everyday. At least I am physically ready”, he says with a smile.
Aboard his bike that he believes is “very competitive”, the Serb esteems he has “the science and sufficient capabilities to go al the way”. To do this, he has defined the principal axis of his strategy: “ride at 70, 80% of my potential, no more.” Besides the desert portions, the Belgrade native doesn’t “know much about what he’s in for. I think there will be everything…” Only the atmosphere in the bivouac will seem familiar to him thanks to numerous tales from friends who are Dakar regulars.
He got into motorbike riding “little by little” but has ridden extensively in Asia. He managed to cross China, where he rode 7000 kilometres with a broken bike, including “a leaking fuel tank that spilled petrol just under the rear wheel…” But the Serb was always lucky. No accidents, not a broken bone until now and there’s no reason that should change in South America.
